One price list for every Bay Area city
We do not charge more in San Francisco than in San Jose, or more on Saturday than on Tuesday. The rate covers the whole crew and the truck:
| Crew | Hourly rate | 3-hour minimum |
|---|---|---|
| 2 movers (very small moves) | $145 | $435 |
| 3 movers (our standard crew) | $175 | $525 |
| 4 movers (3 bedrooms over 1,800 sq ft, or 4+ bedrooms over 1,500 sq ft) | $235 | $705 |
After the first three hours, billing goes in 15-minute steps. Blankets, tape, wardrobe boxes, floor protection and furniture disassembly and reassembly are included; boxes and other packing materials are billed as used. There is no charge for the drive to your first address. The drive between your two homes is part of the job, and California rules count it twice when the addresses are more than 10 minutes apart. See moving cost by home size for what real moves took.
One crew from Marin to Gilroy
Spartan Moving Systems is a Bay Area moving company based in San Jose. We move households and small offices in San Francisco, the Peninsula, the South Bay, the East Bay and Marin, and we take long-distance moves that start anywhere in California. The people who carry your furniture are our own team: the core of the crew has been with Spartan since 2007, the newest member since 2014, and together they have more than 10,000 moves behind them. We do not hand local jobs to day laborers or another company.
This page is the map of everything we cover. Pick your county, city or neighborhood below for the local details (parking, building types, stairs, drive times), or go straight to the service or route you need.
Where Bay Area moves come from
We looked at the quote requests that came to us directly from mid-July to late October 2026, leaving out account and partner work:
- About 4 in 10 started in the South Bay, mostly San Jose, Santa Clara and Sunnyvale.
- About 2 in 10 started in San Francisco, and about as many in the East Bay, led by Oakland and Fremont.
- About 1 in 10 started on the Peninsula.
- The rest came from Marin, Santa Cruz, wine country and a few addresses outside California.
Across all requests in that period, one-bedroom and two-bedroom homes were the most common sizes, followed by three-bedroom homes, studios and four-bedroom homes. Roughly 1 request in 12 was a long-distance move rather than a local one.

Questions and answers
- Do you charge more in San Francisco or the hills?
No. The hourly rate is the same in every Bay Area city and on every day of the week. Stairs, long carries and hills add time, and time is what changes the total.
- Do you charge for the drive from San Jose to my home?
No. Travel to your first address is free. Only the drive between your pickup and drop-off is billed, and it counts twice when the two are more than 10 minutes apart.
- Are the movers your employees?
Yes. Local moves are done by Spartan's own team. We carry our own workers' compensation and do not use a staffing agency.
- Do you move people out of the Bay Area?
Yes, as long as the move starts in California. Moves within the state and to other states are priced by weight with a minimum space reservation, or as a flat fee for a reserved truck.
- What is your license number?
Cal-T #0190543 for moves within California and US DOT 1783494 for interstate moves. We hold a 4.8 rating from 77 Google reviews.
