From late fall to spring, Caltrans can put chain controls on I-80 over Donner Summit and on US-50 over Echo Summit, and storms can close the passes. If you are moving in winter, keep your dates a little flexible and tell us early. At the destination, Tahoe cabins and Reno foothill homes often have steep or narrow driveways and snow-covered access.
