Lafayette Movers for the Valleys off Highway 24
Lafayette Movers for Happy Valley, Burton Valley and Reliez Valley homes. Driveways checked first, 3 movers $175/hr. Call 1-877-417-6060.

Can the truck reach my front door?
In Lafayette that question is about the driveway more than the curb. Many lots are cut into hillsides, with steep or curving drives and garages at the top or the bottom. A loaded truck needs level ground and room to turn, so if the drive is too steep we stop on the street and the crew carries. Lafayette asks vehicles on city streets to move every 72 hours, and its Engineering Department handles right-of-way encroachment permits for anything that occupies the road. A truck parked for one moving day rarely runs into either, but if your street is narrow, ask us to check before move day.
Where is everything in Lafayette?
Lafayette strings along Highway 24 between Orinda and Walnut Creek, with BART running down the freeway median and a station at the edge of downtown. Mount Diablo Boulevard is the main street, lined with shops, restaurants and a growing number of condo buildings. Off it, the town branches into a set of valleys, each with its own feel: Happy Valley to the north, Reliez Valley to the northeast, Burton Valley to the south toward Moraga, and Springhill up the slopes. The Lafayette Reservoir sits just east of town center under the ridgeline.
Which kind of Lafayette home do you have?
Burton Valley ranch houses
Single-story homes on flat to gently sloping lots near the schools. The easiest Lafayette moves, usually with a driveway the truck can use.
Happy Valley and Reliez Valley hill homes
Larger two-story houses, long drives, outdoor stairs to the entry. Plan for extra carrying time and bigger furniture.
Downtown condos
Newer buildings near Mount Diablo Boulevard and BART, often with elevators and loading rules. Ask the building about a certificate of insurance; we supply one free.
What will it cost?
Condos and smaller ranch homes typically take three movers at $175 an hour. The bigger hill homes, three bedrooms over 1,800 square feet or four bedrooms and more, get four movers at $235. You pay a three-hour minimum, then by the quarter hour, and the rate is the same any day of the week. Blankets, tape, loaned wardrobe boxes, floor protection and furniture disassembly and reassembly are part of a full-service move; boxes and other materials are charged only if we use them.
Hours and cost by home size in Lafayette
To help you budget a Lafayette move, we grouped the billed hours from local jobs we closed between July and October 2026 by home size, so the totals below are the hours times the rate. A quarter of those jobs ran shorter and a quarter ran longer; your bill is hourly and depends on the time the crew spends.
| Home size | Crew | Typical hours | Typical cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Studio | 3 movers, $175/hr | 3 to 4 hours | $525 to $700 |
| 1 bedroom | 3 movers, $175/hr | 3 to 5 hours | $525 to $875 |
| 2 bedrooms | 3 movers, $175/hr | 4.5 to 7.75 hours | $788 to $1,356 |
| 3 bedrooms, under about 1,800 sq ft | 3 movers, $175/hr | 7 to 12.5 hours | $1,225 to $2,188 |
| 3 bedrooms over about 1,800 sq ft, or 4+ bedrooms | 4 movers, $235/hr | 7 to 12.5 hours | $1,645 to $2,938 |
Based on billed hours from local moves for direct customers that we closed July to October 2026 (middle 50%), drive between addresses included; account or partner-billed jobs and full-packing jobs excluded. Add packing materials used. The 3-hour minimum applies to every move.
Lots cut into hillsides with steep or curving drives and outdoor stairs to the entry, as in Happy Valley and Reliez Valley, are what push a Lafayette house toward the top of its row.
How often do we work here?
Between mid-July and late October 2026 we had one Lafayette quote request, and it completed, so one request says little. Across Lamorinda and central Contra Costa County (Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda, Walnut Creek, Concord and Alamo) we received 7 requests in that period, not counting account work, and 5 of them booked or completed.
What should I do before move day?
- Describe the driveway when you call: steep, curved, gravel, or shared.
- If you are in a condo or HOA, send us the association name, mailing address and email for the COI, and book the elevator.
- Trim back branches hanging low over the drive if you can.
- Tell us about pianos. Grands always take four movers; an upright takes four when stairs are involved.
- Set aside what you are taking yourself so the crew does not load it.
- Have cash, a money order, Visa or Mastercard ready. Cards add 3%, and we do not accept checks.
How far is Lafayette from your base?
About 40 miles north of downtown San Jose, by way of I-680 and Highway 24. We do not charge for that drive. The East Bay arrival window for morning jobs is 9 to 11 AM, with a call from the crew 30 minutes out.

Questions and answers
Do I need a permit for the moving truck in Lafayette?
If the truck can load from your driveway, usually not. If it has to stand in the street, the city Engineering Department handles right-of-way permits, and we help you figure out whether your address needs one.
Our driveway is too steep for a big truck. What happens?
The truck parks on level ground and the crew carries to it. The extra carrying adds time, which is why we ask about the driveway up front.
Do you charge for coming from San Jose?
No. There is no charge for travel to your location. Billing is hourly once the job begins.
We are moving from Lafayette to Walnut Creek. How is the drive billed?
If the trip between the two homes takes more than 10 minutes, that drive time is billed at double, as California regulation requires. Shorter hops are billed at the normal rate.
Can you pack the whole house for us?
Yes. Packing materials are billed as used, and our crews can pack everything or just the fragile rooms.
Is there a discount if our agent referred us?
Yes, 7% for a real-estate agent referral. Give us the agent's name or phone number when you book.
