Rates for El Cerrito moves

Same rates every day: 2 movers $145 per hour, 3 movers $175, 4 movers $235. Three movers is our standard crew; a three-bedroom over about 1,800 square feet or a four-bedroom gets four. Every local move has a 3-hour minimum, then 15-minute increments.

Moving blankets, tape, wardrobe boxes, floor protection, and furniture disassembly and reassembly are included. Packing supplies are charged as used. We do not charge for travel to your home. If your new home is more than 10 minutes away, California rules double the drive time between the two addresses; a move within El Cerrito or to Albany next door often stays under that.

Hours and cost by home size in El Cerrito

Rather than quote a vague starting price, we started from the billed time on moves we completed from mid-July to mid-October 2026 and converted the hours to dollars at our crew rates. The rows describe what is common, not what is guaranteed; your bill is hourly and depends on the time the crew spends.

Home sizeCrewTypical hoursTypical cost
Studio3 movers, $175/hr3.5 to 4 hours$613 to $700
1 bedroom3 movers, $175/hr3 to 4.5 hours$525 to $788

Middle 50% of billed hours on recent local moves for direct customers (July to October 2026), with the drive between homes counted as billed. Account and partner-billed jobs and moves that included our full packing are not in these numbers. Packing supplies extra; 3-hour minimum.

Homes on the gentle grades lower in town move faster than the houses near Arlington Boulevard that sit above or below the street behind a long outdoor staircase or steep driveway.

01

A city built on a slope

El Cerrito runs from San Pablo Avenue and the BART line on the flats up into the hills that overlook the bay. Lower in town, homes are mostly modest houses on gentle grades. Higher up, toward Arlington Boulevard and above, many houses sit well above or below the street, reached by a long outdoor staircase or a steep driveway, with the main living space up one floor.

So in El Cerrito the furniture is usually ordinary and the stairs are not, which is why we ask about them before we quote.

02

Tell us about the stairs

The most useful thing you can do for an accurate quote is describe the route from the front door to where the truck can stop:

  • How many outdoor steps between the street and the door?
  • Is there a landing, a turn or a gate on the way?
  • Can the truck use the driveway, or does it stay on the street?
  • Are the bedrooms up or down a flight inside the house?
  • Any piano, safe or oversized furniture?

A long outdoor stair run adds time, so we take it into account when we size the crew for your quote.

03

Pianos on a hillside

Pianos are the classic El Cerrito problem. A grand or baby grand always gets a four-mover team, and a piano-only grand job has a 4-hour minimum. An upright gets four movers if there is a flight of stairs, otherwise three. If the piano is part of a bigger move, the job's normal minimum applies. See piano moving.

04

Condos and apartments on the flats

Not every El Cerrito move is on a hill. Along San Pablo Avenue and near the two BART stations there are apartment and condominium buildings where the questions are different: is there an elevator, where can a 26-foot truck stop, and does the building want a certificate of insurance? We issue certificates at no fee. Elevator wait time is billed as part of the job, so reserve it with your manager if the building allows.

05

Nearby

El Cerrito sits between Richmond to the north and west, and Albany and North Berkeley to the south, all linked by San Pablo Avenue and Interstate 80, so a move to a next-door city is usually a short drive. See also Berkeley, San Pablo and Oakland.

Questions and answers

Do stairs cost extra?

There is no stair fee. We bill by the hour, so a long staircase shows up as time. The right crew size keeps that time down.

Can you move a piano up a hillside staircase?

Yes. Uprights with stairs get four movers. Grand pianos always get four movers, with a 4-hour minimum when the job is piano only.

What time does the crew arrive in El Cerrito?

East Bay morning jobs have an ETA window of 9 to 11 AM. The crew calls 30 minutes ahead.

Do you provide moving boxes?

Yes. The truck carries packing supplies and extra boxes, charged as used. Wardrobe boxes are included on a full-service move.

Can I get an on-site estimate for a hillside home?

Yes. We do not do video estimates because they are not accurate; an on-site visit is the way to get a reliable number for a complicated home.

Is elevator time billed?

Yes. Waiting for the elevator is part of the job time, so reserving it ahead of time saves money.
