Presidio Heights questions01 · Quick answers

Where is Presidio Heights?

It runs along the south edge of the Presidio, roughly between Presidio Avenue on the east and Arguello Boulevard on the west, in ZIP 94118. Pacific Heights is to the east, Laurel Heights is to the south and the Inner Richmond begins on the far side of Arguello.

Sacramento Street has a short row of shops and cafes, and Laurel Village on California Street is close by.

What are the homes like?

Mostly large single-family houses and roomy flats in two- and three-unit buildings, many built in the early twentieth century. Homes along the Presidio side of the neighborhood tend to be the largest, with several floors and garages at street level.

Bigger homes usually mean more furniture and more fragile pieces: art, mirrors, antiques and pianos.

Are the streets steep?

Less than in Pacific Heights next door. Most blocks have a moderate grade, and the streets are mainly residential with light traffic. The bigger factors are long front walks, interior stairs and the size of the house.

Where does the truck park?

On most blocks, at a reserved stretch of curb in front of the house or close to it. The SFMTA authorizes temporary no-parking signs; our SF parking permit guide explains how to apply. Give yourself a week or more.

Sacramento Street and California Street are busier with shoppers and buses, so homes on or near them may be better served from a side street.

How should I prepare?

Walk each floor and list the large or fragile pieces. Measure the tightest doorway and stair turn for your largest furniture. If you are in a flat with a shared entry, let the other units know the date. If the new home is not ready, plan for packing and storage.

Can you handle art and antiques?

Yes. Pieces are wrapped in moving blankets, framed art can be boxed, and furniture that needs it is taken apart and reassembled. Mention anything unusually heavy or valuable when you request a quote so the crew is ready for it.
