Cow Hollow sits between the Marina and Pacific Heights, in ZIP 94123. Lombard Street, which carries US 101 to the Golden Gate Bridge, runs along the north side, Van Ness Avenue is to the east and the Presidio is to the west. Union Street is the heart of the neighborhood, with shops and restaurants, many in converted Victorians, and Fillmore Street crosses it on its way up the hill.
The name goes back to the dairy farms that once filled the valley. Today it is mostly homes, and the Octagon House on Gough Street is one of the older reminders of the past. The ground is fairly level near Lombard and rises steadily heading south, so a move from a flat near Greenwich Street and a move from a house near Vallejo can feel like two different neighborhoods.
The blocks change fast from north to south, so we start with the address and work forward:
Tell us whether you are in a flat over a garage, a Victorian with front stairs or a larger house on the slope. Each one changes the crew size and where the crew loads.
Open curb is short on most blocks. SFMTA temporary no-parking signs hold space for the truck; the SF parking permit guide explains how. Apply a week or more ahead.
If your home is on Union, Fillmore or Lombard, a reserved spot on a quieter cross street is usually the safer place to load.
The crew lays floor protection along the route and wraps furniture in moving blankets. Older homes with original woodwork get extra care at banisters and door frames.
On the southern blocks the street slopes toward the Marina. The truck stops where it can sit safely, and the crew uses dollies for the carry.
Beds, tables and anything taken apart go back together in the rooms you choose before the crew leaves.
Our hourly rates are $145 for 2 movers, $175 for 3 movers and $235 for 4 movers. There is a 3-hour minimum, and packing materials are added as used. Larger homes on the upper blocks often need 4 movers, and we recommend a crew size when we quote.
Every full-service move includes furniture disassembly and reassembly, floor protection, moving blankets, tape and wardrobe boxes. Packing packages: Standard, Silver (+$35/hr) and Golden (+$70/hr). The moving cost guide explains what shapes the hours.
Near Lombard and Greenwich, many buildings have garages at street level and flats above, much like the Marina next door. The interior stair is usually the main carry.
On the middle blocks, older homes sit up off the sidewalk with exterior steps to the front door. Narrow halls and tight turns mean some pieces need to come apart.
Toward Pacific Heights, houses get bigger, with several floors and more furniture. Tell us about pianos, art and antiques when you request a quote. See piano movers for how piano moves are planned.
Cow Hollow sits right by the Golden Gate Bridge approach, which makes moves to Marin a short drive. For moves beyond California, see long-distance moving.

We avoid the busy shopping blocks. A reserved stretch of curb on a nearby cross street is usually easier and safer to load from.
On most blocks it is the dependable way to get the truck close. The SFMTA authorizes temporary no-parking signs; apply a week or more ahead and confirm the posting rules and fees at sfmta.com.
2 movers are $145 an hour, 3 movers $175 an hour and 4 movers $235 an hour, with a 3-hour minimum, plus packing materials used.
The drive is very short. The time goes into stairs, garages and curb space at each end, which we plan separately for both addresses.
Yes. Tell us the piano type and the steps at each address when you request a quote so the right crew is scheduled.
Yes. Moves across the Golden Gate Bridge to Marin County are part of our local moving service.
The Marina is directly north across Lombard Street, Pacific Heights rises to the south, Presidio Heights is just southwest, and Russian Hill is east across Van Ness.
