Steep blocks between two freeways, cottages with downtown views and new condos at the foot of the hill. We plan where the truck can stop safely on the slope.
Call toll free1-877-417-6060Potrero Hill rises between US 101 on the west and Interstate 280 on the east, all within ZIP 94107. The Mission lies across 101, Dogpatch sits along the waterfront to the east, and Mission Bay and SoMa spread out below the north slope. The commercial heart is a short stretch of 18th Street around Connecticut, Arkansas and Texas Streets, with cafes and small shops.
Residential streets climb in every direction. Vermont Street has a winding block between 20th and 22nd Streets, just below McKinley Square, and the Potrero Hill Recreation Center sits near the top on the east side. At the north base, around Showplace Square and 16th Street, older industrial buildings share the blocks with newer apartments and condos.
Many of the oldest homes are small cottages set close to the sidewalk, with a short flight of front stairs and compact rooms. Narrow doorways mean large pieces may have to come apart.
On the steeper blocks, the front door can be a full floor above or below the street. Exterior stairs and split levels add trips, so we ask about them when you request a quote.
Newer homes squeezed onto older lots often have open plans, big windows and a garage at street level. Tall glass and polished floors call for careful wrapping and floor protection, which come with a full-service move.
Mid-rise buildings near Showplace Square and Mission Bay typically need an elevator reservation and a certificate of insurance. We provide the COI and coordinate the elevator with management.
A loaded truck should sit on the safest piece of curb, not just the closest one. On Potrero Hill that takes some planning:

Many moves here are short: from a condo near Mission Bay up to a cottage on the hill, or from the hill down into the Mission or Dogpatch. Local moving covers those, along with moves anywhere in the Bay Area.
Antiques and heavy wood furniture are common in older homes. Tell us about armoires, pianos and other large pieces when you call so the crew is ready for them. For moves beyond California, see long-distance moving, and for a gap between homes, packing and storage.
A Potrero Hill move costs $145-185 an hour for a team of 3 movers. There is a 3-hour minimum, and packing materials are charged as used. The rate depends on the date and availability.
Full-service moves include furniture disassembly and reassembly, moving blankets, tape, wardrobe boxes and floor protection. Packing packages: Standard, Silver (+$35/hr) and Golden (+$70/hr). See the moving cost guide for what shapes the total.

The Mission is just west across US 101, SoMa sits below the north slope, and Bernal Heights is a short drive south.

Often, yes, but we choose the spot for safety first. On the steepest blocks the truck may park on a flatter stretch nearby, and the crew covers the distance with dollies.
On most blocks it helps. The SFMTA authorizes temporary no-parking signs for a set length of curb. Apply a week or more ahead, and confirm the posting window and fees at sfmta.com.
