Older houses with front steps on tree-lined blocks off College Avenue, and steeper streets climbing toward the hills. We plan a Rockridge move around the stairs, the curb and the shopping street.
Call toll free1-877-417-6060Rockridge is in North Oakland, at the foot of the Oakland hills, and most addresses use ZIP 94618. College Avenue is its main street, lined with cafes, food shops and restaurants, and it carries on north across the city line into Berkeley's Elmwood district. Highway 24 cuts through the neighborhood on its way to the Caldecott Tunnel, with the Rockridge BART station sitting in the freeway median at College Avenue.
West of College, the ground is mostly level and the blocks are full of early twentieth-century houses set close together. East toward Broadway and above it, the streets start to wind and climb into the hills, and the homes sit higher above the sidewalk. Temescal is to the west, Claremont and Berkeley are to the north, and Montclair is up the ridge to the southeast.

A large share of Rockridge is one- and one-and-a-half-story bungalows with a porch and a short run of front steps. Inside, doorways and hallways are narrower than in newer houses, so big sofas and bed frames often come apart before they come out.
Two-story shingle houses and Tudor or Mediterranean revival homes are common on the larger lots. Bedrooms are usually upstairs, often reached by a steep staircase with a turn.
Some blocks near College Avenue and the BART station have duplexes, fourplexes and small walk-up buildings. Tell us the floor and whether the stairs are inside or outside.
Above Broadway, many houses sit well above or below the street, with long exterior staircases between the curb and the front door. The carry from the truck is the main thing we plan for.
Driveways are short or shared on many blocks, so most Rockridge moves load from the street. What we plan around:
Many Rockridge moves are close to home: from a duplex near College Avenue into a house in Temescal, or from a family house into something smaller across the line in Berkeley. Our local moving crews handle moves anywhere in the East Bay and the rest of the Bay Area.
Highway 24 also makes Rockridge a common starting point for moves over the hill to Orinda, Lafayette and Walnut Creek. If the dates do not line up, packing and storage holds everything in between, billed at a flat monthly price. Leaving California? See long-distance moving.
We bill by the hour with a 3-hour minimum: 2 movers at $145, 3 movers at $175 and 4 movers at $235, plus packing materials only as used. A flat-entry bungalow often suits a smaller crew than a hillside house with a long staircase from the curb.
Each full-service move includes floor protection, moving blankets, tape, wardrobe boxes, and taking apart and reassembling furniture that will not fit through an older doorway in one piece. The moving cost guide shows what drives the hours.

Temescal is just west along 51st Street, the Claremont district of Berkeley is directly north, Montclair is up in the hills to the southeast, and Orinda is a short drive east through the Caldecott Tunnel.

We avoid it whenever there is another option. College Avenue has buses and heavy foot traffic, so we normally load from a side street close to your door.
If the truck has to hold curb space on a city street, yes. Oakland issues an Obstruction (OB) permit through OakDOT, and the No Parking signs go up 72 hours ahead. We can help you place the permit hold.
Rates are $145 an hour for 2 movers, $175 an hour for 3 movers and $235 an hour for 4 movers, with a 3-hour minimum, plus any packing materials used.
No. Tell us how many steps there are and whether there is a landing, and we size the crew so the carry stays steady and safe.
Usually, once the legs, cushions or frame come off. Measure the front door and any tight hallway turn and mention very large pieces when you ask for a quote.
