Emerald Hills questions01 · Quick answers

Where is Emerald Hills?

In the hills just west of Redwood City, between the city and Interstate 280, with Woodside to the south and west. It is unincorporated San Mateo County, not part of Redwood City, though homes use Redwood City mailing addresses in ZIP 94062. Census maps call the area Emerald Lake Hills.

Jefferson Avenue and Farm Hill Boulevard are the main roads up from Redwood City, and Interstate 280 runs along the western side.

What are the homes like?

Single-family houses on hillside lots, in a wide mix of styles and sizes. Some sit level with the road; many sit above it with a steep driveway, or below it with steps down to the door. Split levels, decks and stairs inside the house are common.

Can a full-size truck reach my house?

Jefferson Avenue and Farm Hill Boulevard take a full-size truck without trouble. Off them, many lanes are tight: one car wide in places, no sidewalk, blind curves and no turnaround at the end. Some houses are reached by a private road or a driveway shared with neighbors. We look at the address first, then decide between a smaller truck and a shuttle from the nearest level pull-out.

Who handles parking and the roads?

Because Emerald Hills is unincorporated, its public roads are San Mateo County roads rather than Redwood City streets. Most moves here never need a curb reservation at all. The truck stands in the driveway or on a wide shoulder, positioned so neighbors, delivery vans and fire engines can still get by.

What should I tell you when booking?

Three things help most: whether the house sits above or below the road, roughly how far it is from where a truck can stop to your front door, and which items are unusually heavy, such as a piano, a gun safe or a home gym. Clearing your own cars out of the driveway before the crew arrives saves time too.

Does it take longer than a move in town?

Often a little, because the truck may park farther away and the carry includes grades and stairs. We account for that when sizing the crew, so the extra walking is shared among more hands.

Emerald Hills moving cost04 · Pricing
$145per hour · team of 2 movers

There is no hillside surcharge. The hourly rate is our standard one: $145 with a team of 2, $175 with 3 and $235 with 4, billed for at least 3 hours, with packing materials added only if used. The hours themselves depend on the distance from truck to door and the number of stairs, which is why we ask about the lot before quoting.

Each full-service move comes with moving blankets, tape, wardrobe boxes, floor protection, and taking furniture apart and back together. For an upright or grand, see piano movers; for a rundown of what adds time, see the moving cost guide.

Emerald Hills
moving FAQ.

Is Emerald Hills part of Redwood City?

No. Emerald Hills is unincorporated San Mateo County, though homes use Redwood City mailing addresses in ZIP 94062.

Can a moving truck get up the narrow Emerald Hills roads?

The main roads, yes. For tighter lanes we check the address ahead of time and either send a smaller truck or shuttle from the nearest level pull-out.

What does an Emerald Hills move cost?

The standard hourly rates apply: $145 for a 2-mover team, $175 for 3 movers, $235 for 4 movers. There is a 3-hour minimum, and packing materials are billed only if used.

Our front door is down a flight of outdoor steps. Is that a problem?

Not at all. It just means more hands on the carry. Let us know about the steps when you call, and the crew is sized so nothing heavy is rushed.

Do I need a parking permit?

Usually not, since most moves load from the driveway or a shoulder. If the truck must stand on a public road for a long time, the roads are San Mateo County roads, and we check what applies.
