Older homes, long driveways and leafy streets off Lincoln Avenue. We plan the carry, protect the original floors and handle the curb permit if the truck needs the street.
Call toll free1-877-417-6060Willow Glen sits southwest of Downtown San Jose, with most of the neighborhood inside ZIP 95125. It was an incorporated town of its own for a few years before it joined San Jose in 1936, and it still feels like one. Lincoln Avenue is the main street, lined with independent shops, cafes and restaurants, and the side streets around it are some of the most walkable residential blocks in the city.
The area is roughly framed by Interstate 280 to the north and State Route 87 to the east, with Los Gatos Creek and the Guadalupe River corridor running nearby. Minnesota Avenue, Willow Street, Meridian Avenue, Bird Avenue and Curtner Avenue carry most of the through traffic. If you are moving within the neighborhood, a lot of the day is spent on quiet residential blocks. If you are moving in from elsewhere in the Bay Area, the truck usually comes off 280 or 87 and finishes on those same narrow, tree-covered streets.
Much of the housing near Lincoln Avenue dates from the 1920s through the 1940s: Craftsman bungalows with front porches, Spanish Revival homes with stucco and tile, and Tudor-style cottages with steep rooflines. Farther south, toward Curtner and beyond, the streets fill in with post-war ranch houses and some mid-century homes.
Each style moves a little differently. Bungalows tend to have a few porch steps, interior doorways narrower than a modern build, and original hardwood that scratches easily. Revival homes often have arched openings and tight turns at the stairs. Many older lots have a long single-lane driveway that runs past the house to a detached garage in back, which is great for storage and awkward for a truck. We plan where the truck goes and how furniture leaves the house before move day, and we lay floor protection down from the front door to every room we work in.
Mature street trees are a big part of the neighborhood's look, and some hang low over the curb. We watch truck clearance when we pick a spot so nothing gets scraped, including your tree.
A detached garage at the end of a narrow driveway usually means a longer walk with the dolly. Clearing parked cars from the driveway the night before saves real time.
If the driveway will not work, San Jose's Department of Transportation issues a Tow-Away Permit to reserve the curb. The city suggests applying about two weeks ahead, and we help with the permit hold.
Lincoln Avenue hosts community events and the occasional street closure. If your address is on or near it, check the city calendar before you lock in a date.
A short list of questions makes the estimate accurate and the day predictable:
Older homes in Willow Glen get remodeled often, and a big remodel can mean moving out for weeks or months. In that case the job is really two moves: pack the house and take everything to storage, then bring it back to a finished home. Our packing and storage service covers both halves, and storage is billed at a flat monthly price.
We also see plenty of straightforward local moves: a family moving from a smaller bungalow to a larger house a few blocks away, or downsizing from a ranch home to a condo closer to Downtown. If you are leaving the Bay Area entirely, we handle long-distance moves as well.
A team of 3 movers runs $145-185 an hour, with a 3-hour minimum, plus any packing materials you use. The exact rate depends on the date and availability.
Blankets, tape, wardrobe boxes, floor protection, and furniture disassembly and reassembly are included on a full-service move. The moving cost guide explains what drives the total hours.

On most residential blocks, yes. Low branches and cars parked on both sides are the usual problems, so we look at the access before move day. When the street is tight, the truck parks where it fits and we cover the extra distance with dollies.
Only if the truck has to use the curb on a city street. San Jose's Department of Transportation issues a Tow-Away Permit for that, and the city suggests applying about two weeks ahead. We help with the permit hold.
