Post-war houses on flat East San Jose blocks, then steeper streets as Alum Rock Avenue climbs toward the park. We match the truck and the crew to which end of the avenue you live on.
Call toll free1-877-417-6060Alum Rock is a large stretch of East San Jose organized around Alum Rock Avenue, which is what East Santa Clara Street becomes once it crosses US 101. Most homes here have a 95127 ZIP code, with the western blocks closer to the freeway in 95116. Interstate 680 crosses the avenue partway along, and King Road, White Road and Capitol Avenue are the main north-south streets.
Near King Road, the Mexican Heritage Plaza is a well-known landmark on the avenue. Farther east the ground starts to rise, and the avenue climbs into the foothills of the Diablo Range toward Alum Rock Park, a canyon park along Penitencia Creek known for its old mineral springs. Above the city limits, the hillside homes of the unincorporated East Foothills continue up the slope.

The flatter blocks west of White Road are mostly modest single-family houses with a driveway and an attached garage. These are often the simplest moves in the area, with no stairs at the entry and a short walk to the truck.
Two-unit buildings and garden-style apartment complexes line many of the larger streets. Upper units usually have an exterior staircase, so let us know the floor and whether the stairs are open or enclosed.
Many Alum Rock homes hold several generations under one roof, which means more furniture and more boxes than the square footage suggests. A room-by-room count gives a much better estimate than the bedroom number alone.
Toward the eastern end of the avenue, streets get steeper and some homes sit above or below the road on sloped lots. Driveway grade and entry steps matter more here than anywhere else in the neighborhood.
Most addresses have room for the truck. These are the spots that need a plan:
Plenty of Alum Rock moves stay close: from an apartment into a first house a few blocks away, or from a family home into something smaller in Evergreen or Berryessa. Our local moving crews cover moves anywhere in San Jose and the rest of the Bay Area.
When a move-out date and a move-in date do not line up, packing and storage bridges the gap, and storage is billed at a flat monthly price. Leaving California entirely? See long-distance moving.
Hourly pricing: 2 movers $145 an hour, 3 movers $175 an hour, 4 movers $235 an hour, 3-hour minimum, plus any packing materials you use. A single-story home with the truck in the driveway often fits a smaller crew than a hillside house with stairs.
Moving blankets, tape, wardrobe boxes, floor protection and furniture disassembly and reassembly are part of every full-service move. The moving cost guide walks through what drives the total hours.

The East Foothills sit directly uphill, Berryessa is to the north across the freeways, Evergreen is to the south, and Downtown San Jose is straight down Santa Clara Street to the west.

We avoid it when there is another option. The avenue carries buses and heavy traffic, so we usually load from a driveway or a side street close to the home.
Only if the truck must hold curb space on a city street. San Jose's Department of Transportation issues a Tow-Away Permit for that. Apply about two weeks ahead and check the current rules with the city.

No, but tell us about the slope, the driveway and any entry steps when you ask for a quote. We pick a safe, level spot for the truck and plan the carry from there.
Yes. Tell us the floor and the type of staircase, and we plan the crew size around it.
