Hourly, with a 3-hour minimum and 15-minute increments after that. The rate is the same every day: 2 movers $145, 3 movers $175, 4 movers $235. Three movers is our standard; four for a three-bedroom over about 1,800 square feet or four bedrooms and more.

On a move inside Pleasant Hill or to the next town over, the two addresses may be 10 minutes apart or less, and then the drive is billed once, not doubled. Farther moves get double drive time under California rules. We never charge for our drive to your first address. Blankets, tape, wardrobe boxes, floor protection and furniture disassembly and reassembly are included; packing supplies are charged as used.

Pleasant Hill sits between Concord, Walnut Creek and Martinez in Central Contra Costa County, with Interstate 680 and Contra Costa Boulevard running north and south through it. It is mostly a city of single-family neighborhoods, with apartments and condos clustered near the main boulevards and toward the Pleasant Hill BART station area on the south side.

Because it sits right in the middle, Walnut Creek, Concord and Martinez are all a few miles away, and a move across town to a bigger or smaller place is shorter still. Short moves are where an organized crew saves you the most, because the loading and unloading are almost the whole bill.

• Ask your HOA for move-day rules. We send a certificate of insurance at no fee.
• Clear the garage path. A full garage is easy to forget and adds time on move day.
• Downsizing? We store extra furniture at a flat monthly fee while you decide.

Some Pleasant Hill moves are downsizing moves: a family house sold after many years, and a smaller home, condo or senior community as the next stop. These take more planning than a typical move. Decide early what goes, what is sold or donated, and what goes to family. Measure the new rooms and mark which furniture will fit.
