Long rows of homes built over their garages, numbered avenues running to Ocean Beach and plenty of fog. We plan the stair carry and the curb before the truck arrives.
Call toll free1-877-417-6060The Sunset fills the southwest corner of San Francisco between Golden Gate Park and the area around Stern Grove and Lake Merced. Ocean Beach and the Great Highway form its western edge. The Inner Sunset, near the park and UCSF's Parnassus campus, is mostly ZIP 94122, and the blocks to the south toward Parkside are mostly 94116.
The grid is easy to read. Numbered avenues run north to south, and the cross streets run roughly in alphabetical order going south from the park: Irving, Judah, Kirkham, Lawton, Moraga, Noriega, Ortega and onward to Taraval and beyond. Nineteenth Avenue carries State Route 1 through the district, and Sunset Boulevard runs down the middle of the Outer Sunset. Muni's N Judah and L Taraval lines run along the streets they are named for. The Richmond sits across the park to the north.

Most homes were built in long rows from the 1920s through the 1950s, with the garage at street level and the living floor above it. Furniture either climbs the front steps or goes up an interior stair from the garage.
Many homes have a run of exterior stairs from the sidewalk to the front door. They are usually straight, which helps, but a long run adds trips. Count the steps for us when you request a quote.
The garage is often the best loading point. Clearing a path through it the night before, and moving the car out, lets the crew stage boxes inside and out of the weather.
Some homes have a second unit on the ground floor or a converted space behind the garage. Tell us if you are moving out of one, since the entrance can be a side gate or a narrow passage.
The Sunset is calmer to drive than downtown, but every row house has a driveway cut, and that shapes where a truck can stop.
Moves in the Sunset range from a single room in a shared house to a full family home, and from one avenue to the next to a move across Golden Gate Park into the Richmond. For anything in the Bay Area, see local moving. Scooters, bikes and garage gear get wrapped and loaded like furniture.
Garages here tend to collect years of storage. If you are downsizing, packing and storage gives you somewhere to hold what does not fit yet. For a move out of state, see long-distance moving.
Our hourly rate is $145-185 for a crew of 3 movers, with a 3-hour minimum. Packing materials are billed as used, and the exact rate depends on the date you choose and availability.
Every full-service move includes furniture disassembly and reassembly, moving blankets, tape, wardrobe boxes and floor protection. Want us to pack too? Choose Standard, Silver (+$35/hr) or Golden (+$70/hr). The moving cost guide breaks down what affects the total.

The Richmond across the park has a similar mix of row houses and flats. Noe Valley and Bernal Heights, east of Twin Peaks, bring steeper streets and older homes.

Usually, yes. If the garage connects to the living floor by an interior stair, loading through it is often easier than the front steps. Clear a path and move the car out before the crew arrives.
Not always, but driveways leave short gaps of curb on most blocks. The SFMTA authorizes temporary no-parking signs to reserve a stretch for the truck. Apply a week or more ahead and confirm current posting rules and fees at sfmta.com.
