Small older houses, cabins up narrow canyon roads, and a downtown at the foot of the hills. Fairfax is the last town at the west end of the Ross Valley, and its streets get tighter the higher you go.

Fairfax is the westernmost town in the Ross Valley, past San Anselmo on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. Beyond it, the boulevard climbs over White's Hill toward the San Geronimo Valley and West Marin. The whole town is in ZIP 94930.
The small downtown sits around Broadway and Bolinas Road. From there, neighborhoods spread up the side canyons and onto the ridges, and Bolinas Road keeps climbing southwest toward the Mount Tamalpais watershed. Wooded hills and open space rise behind the houses.
For a mover, that means two kinds of Fairfax: the flatter streets near downtown and the creek, and the steep, narrow, winding roads in the hills, where some homes sit up long stairways from the street.
From a cottage near downtown to a cabin at the top of a canyon road, this is how we plan it:
Some Fairfax roads are too narrow or steep for a full-size truck to climb and turn. With your address we decide between a large truck and a smaller one that can reach the house.
Many hillside homes have stairs from the road up or down to the door. The number of steps, and whether there are landings, sets the crew size more than the number of bedrooms.
On many hill roads there is no shoulder and the truck has to stand in the lane. If it needs to hold street space, the Town of Fairfax sets the rules, and we check them with you.
Sir Francis Drake Boulevard is the only main road through the valley, and it slows at commute hours. We pick the start time and route that keep the drive short.
Floors and stair rails are covered, furniture is wrapped inside, and bikes, scooters and outdoor gear are wrapped so nothing rubs in the truck.
Heavy pieces go in first and are strapped for the curves out of the valley. At the new home, everything is placed and reassembled as you direct.
Fairfax moves are charged by the hour with a 3-hour minimum: 2 movers $145, 3 movers $175 and 4 movers $235, plus packing materials when we use them. A downtown cottage with a driveway may need only 2 movers; a hillside house up a long stairway goes faster with 3.
Every full-service move comes with blankets, tape, wardrobe boxes, floor protection and furniture taken apart and put back together. Between homes, packing and storage keeps your things at a flat monthly price. See the moving cost guide for what adds time.

Small older houses close to Broadway and the creek sit on tight lots with short driveways or none. Doorways and halls are narrow, so big pieces often come apart.
Houses on the slopes above town are built into the hill, with decks, split levels and steps to the entry. We plan the carry from wherever the truck can safely stop.
Up the narrow canyon roads, some homes are reached by a footpath or long stairway rather than a driveway. A smaller truck and a bigger crew keep these moves on schedule.
Fairfax has some apartment buildings and multi-unit houses. Ask the manager about move times and parking; we send a certificate of insurance if needed.

Sometimes not a full-size one. If the road is narrow, steep or has no place to turn, we bring a smaller truck that can reach the house and shuttle loads to the large one.
If the truck has to hold space on a public street, the Town of Fairfax sets the rules. Give us your address and date and we check what applies.
We charge $145 an hour for 2 movers, $175 for 3 and $235 for 4, with a 3-hour minimum, plus any packing materials used.
Yes. Tell us roughly how many steps there are, and we bring enough movers that the stairs do not stretch the day.
Yes. Both are local moves within Marin, billed hourly with the same 3-hour minimum.
San Anselmo is next door to the east, Ross is just beyond it along Sir Francis Drake, San Rafael is at the end of the valley by US 101, and Novato is a short drive north.
