Newark moving cost by home size

We compared homes of the same size across our recent local jobs, and the table below is the result. A quarter of those jobs ran shorter and a quarter ran longer; the hourly rate times your actual time is what you pay.

Figures use the middle half of billed hours from local moves we completed for direct customers July through October 2026, drive time between homes included, account and full-pack jobs left out. Boxes and other supplies are extra, and no job bills under 3 hours.

Flat streets, driveways and attached garages make many Newark moves quick, while two-story homes and townhomes with HOA rules add stairs and some planning.

A small city with a bridge to the Peninsula

Newark is a compact city almost entirely surrounded by Fremont, on the bay side of Interstate 880. Its other edge is the shoreline, where Highway 84 heads west across the Dumbarton Bridge to Menlo Park and Palo Alto. The bridge makes Newark a practical home base for people who work on the Peninsula, and it connects moves in both directions.

For a mover, Newark is straightforward country. The streets are flat, most homes have driveways, and the drive to San Jose is short. The planning goes into timing the bridge and the freeway, and into sizing the crew for the home.

Newark homes

  • Mid-century ranch homes. Much of the older housing is single-story, on flat lots with a driveway and an attached garage. These are among the easiest homes in the Bay Area to load.
  • Newer developments. Two-story homes and townhomes, some with HOA rules about move hours and truck parking. We provide certificates of insurance at no fee.
  • Apartments near the main roads and the shopping areas. Ask the manager about loading areas and elevators before the move.

Timing a move across the Dumbarton

If your move crosses the bay, bridge traffic affects the drive time between your two homes. Here is how the drive is billed:

  • We never charge for our travel to your first address or back from your last one.
  • If the two addresses are more than 10 minutes apart, California rules apply double drive time to the drive between them. A Newark to Palo Alto move usually qualifies; a move within Newark usually does not.
  • Extra stops on a local move, such as a storage unit or a second home, cost nothing except the time they take.

Packing a garage before the truck comes

Newark houses usually have an attached garage, and in our experience the garage is where moving days run long. Boxes stacked without lids, loose tools, bikes, paint cans and holiday decorations all need to be packed before they can go on a truck. Box them in the week before your move, label them, and set aside anything that cannot travel, like paint, propane and gasoline. Our crew can bring extra boxes on the truck, charged as used.

Questions and answers

Is Newark part of Fremont?

No. Newark is its own city, though Fremont surrounds most of it. We serve both.

Do you charge extra to cross the Dumbarton Bridge?

There is no separate fee. The drive between your two addresses is billed as work time, doubled under California rules when the addresses are more than 10 minutes apart.

How long does a Newark ranch house take to move?

Single-story homes with a driveway move quickly, but the time depends on how much you have and how far you are going. Send us your inventory and we will estimate the hours.

Can you pack for us?

Yes. Silver adds $35 per hour for bulky and fragile items, and Golden adds $70 per hour for full packing.

Do you accept Zelle or checks?

No. We accept cash, money order, Visa and Mastercard, with a 3% fee on cards.

Do you move pianos in Newark?

Yes. An upright gets three movers, or four if there is a flight of stairs. A grand piano always gets four movers.
