A planned community on the bay

Redwood Shores is the part of Redwood City that lies east of US-101, built out from the 1960s onward on former bay marshland. Marine Parkway and Redwood Shores Parkway carry most of the traffic, Twin Dolphin Drive runs through the office district, and lagoons wind between the residential pockets, with many homes backing onto the water. The bay trail circles the edge, and Belmont, San Carlos and Foster City are each a few minutes away. Residents range from young renters in the apartment buildings to long-time owners in the lagoon houses, so a move here can be anything from a one-bedroom condo to a full four-bedroom home with a boat dock out back.

Housing here is newer than in most of the Peninsula and almost all of it sits inside a homeowners association.

Townhomes, lagoon houses and mid-rise condos

Housing here is newer than in most of the Peninsula and almost all of it sits inside a homeowners association. There are two-story single-family houses on the lagoons, many attached townhomes with interior stairs and two-car garages, and condo and apartment buildings with elevators and underground parking. Interiors tend to be open and bright, garages are attached, and the usual tight spot is the townhome staircase, where a king box spring or a tall dresser has to turn a corner.

HOA rules and loading

Because so many complexes have associations, the first call to make is to your HOA or property manager. They may set move hours, want the elevator reserved, or ask for a certificate of insurance. We provide the COI free; we only need the HOA or management name, mailing address and email. Private streets and guest parking courts inside a complex can be tight, so tell us where the guest spaces and fire lanes are, and David will check access before the day and tell you if a shuttle is needed. Elevator waiting time is billed as job time.

Redwood City requests, citywide

We did not get any requests from ZIP 94065 between mid-July and late October 2026, so we show Redwood City as a whole. Citywide there were 4 quote requests, 3 local and 1 long distance, and 2 have booked or completed. The sizes were two three-bedroom homes, a two-bedroom and a one-bedroom.

Rates for a townhome or condo

A two- or three-bedroom townhome is usually a 3-mover job at $175 an hour. A three-bedroom over 1,800 square feet or a four-bedroom house goes to 4 movers at $235. A small condo with little furniture can be done by 2 movers at $145. After the 3-hour minimum, time is billed in 15-minute increments, at the same rate on every day of the week. There is no extra-stop fee on a local move if you are dropping things at a storage unit on the way; the stop costs only its time.

How long a Redwood Shores move takes, and what it costs

The ranges below come from the billed hours on jobs our own crews finished this year. Your bill is hourly and depends on the time the crew spends, so treat a row as a guide, not a quote.

Source: final invoices on our own local moves for direct customers, July to October 2026, middle half of each size group, not counting account or partner-billed jobs or jobs where we packed the whole home. Materials are billed as used; minimum 3 hours, then 15-minute increments.

Condos with elevators move steadily, while the townhome staircase, where a king box spring has to turn a corner, is the usual tight spot in a Redwood Shores move.

Route and timing from San Jose

Redwood Shores is about 24 miles northwest of downtown San Jose, straight up US-101. The Peninsula arrival window is 8 to 10 AM, and the crew calls 30 minutes ahead. We do not charge for travel to your home. If your destination is more than 10 minutes away, the drive time between the two addresses is doubled under California rules.

Redwood Shores checklist

  • Request the HOA move rules and send us the COI details at least a week out.
  • Book the elevator or loading dock if you live in a condo building.
  • Measure the townhome stair landing and the largest mattress.
  • Move cars out of the garage so the crew can stage furniture there.
  • Keep the garage door opener and gate code handy for the crew lead.
  • Tell neighbors sharing your parking court which morning the truck is coming.

Questions and answers

Our HOA wants a certificate of insurance. Is there a charge?

No. We send the COI free; give us the HOA or management name, mailing address and email.

Can the truck park inside our complex?

Often, but it depends on the private street and the HOA. We look at access before the day and tell you whether the truck can get close or whether a shuttle is needed.

Is waiting for the condo elevator billed?

Yes. Elevator waiting is part of the job time, so a reserved elevator slot keeps the bill down.

Can you stop at a storage unit on the way?

Yes. On a local move an extra stop has no fee; you pay only for the time.

What payment do you accept?

Cash, money order, Visa or Mastercard, with a 3% card fee. No checks, Zelle or Venmo.
