An early 1900s neighborhood west of downtown
Shasta-Hanchett Park is a residential pocket just west of downtown San Jose, set between The Alameda and Park Avenue, a short walk from the Diridon Station area and the SAP Center. It was laid out in the early 1900s as a planned residential park, and it still has the wide, tree-lined streets and generous setbacks of that era. Shasta Avenue and Hanchett Avenue give it its name; the Rose Garden neighborhood is next door to the west.
Period homes and what they need
The housing is a catalog of early 20th century styles: Craftsman bungalows with deep porches, Prairie-style homes with low wide roofs, Mission Revival houses with stucco and arches, and some Tudor and Colonial Revival homes. Many have been carefully restored. Original hardwood, built-in cabinets, leaded glass and plaster walls all deserve care. Doorways and hallways are narrower than in a modern house, and some second floors are reached by a single steep stair.
We protect floors with runners, wrap every piece in blankets, and disassemble anything that will not make a turn. That is all included, not an add-on.
Hourly rates for an older home
A bungalow or a two-bedroom house is usually a three-mover job at $175 an hour. A three-bedroom over 1,800 square feet, or a home with four bedrooms or more, gets four movers at $235 an hour. Two movers at $145 are only for a very small load or by request. Three hours is the minimum, then 15-minute increments, and the rate is the same any day of the week.

Middle 50% of billed hours on recent local moves for direct customers (July to October 2026), with the drive between homes counted as billed. Account and partner-billed jobs and moves that included our full packing are not in these numbers. Packing supplies extra; 3-hour minimum.
Narrow doorways and a single steep stair to the second floor are what usually stretch a move here within its row.
Event nights and tree-shaded curbs
The arena and the Diridon area bring traffic and parking pressure on game and concert nights, so a daytime move on a non-event day is easier. Mature street trees can overhang the curb, and the crew chooses a spot with clearance. Long driveways to rear garages are common, and the truck rarely fits down them, so the crew carries from the street. Check with the city whether reserving curb space in front of the house is needed for your date.
Just minutes from our base
Shasta-Hanchett Park is only about 2 miles from downtown San Jose, which is home for our crews. There is no charge for the drive to you. South Bay morning moves arrive between 8 and 10 AM, and the foreman calls about 30 minutes ahead. A move within this part of San Jose often stays under the 10-minute threshold that triggers double drive time under California rules.
San Jose requests this year
ZIP 95126 sent us only two requests in our latest data window, so we will use the citywide figure. Between mid-July and late October 2026, San Jose households sent 39 quote requests outside our account work, and 24 of those were booked or completed. Sizes were spread widely: one-bedroom homes were the largest group at 8, with three-bedroom homes close behind at 7.
Moving within the neighborhood
Short moves are common in this part of San Jose: from a rental bungalow into a purchased home a few blocks away, or from a large house into a smaller one nearby. Extra stops on a local move, such as a storage unit or a relative's garage, add only the time they take, not a separate fee. If the destination is a condo downtown, plan the elevator and loading area at that end too.
