North Berkeley rises in steps. Near the university, on the Northside, there are apartment buildings and older houses divided into units, with plenty of students and staff. A little farther north, the area along Shattuck Avenue, long known as the Gourmet Ghetto, has shops and restaurants and quiet residential blocks of shingle and Craftsman houses on mostly level ground.
Above that, the streets climb into the Berkeley Hills. Marin Avenue is famously steep, Euclid Avenue winds up past the Berkeley Rose Garden, and many hill homes sit well above or below the road, connected to it by long private stairs. The city's network of public pathways and stairways cuts between the switchbacks too, which says a lot about how steep the ground is.
So one North Berkeley move might be an easy walk-up on the flats, and the next a hill house where the truck stops a long way from the door. We ask for your exact street and the number of steps before we quote.

Things we keep in mind across the neighborhood:
North Berkeley moves are billed by the hour: 2 movers $145, 3 movers $175, 4 movers $235, with a 3-hour minimum and packing materials as used. A long stairway or a steep carry from the truck adds time, so we ask about both up front.
Every full-service move includes floor protection, moving blankets, tape, wardrobe boxes and furniture disassembly and reassembly. If you would rather not pack the kitchen, the crew can; see packing services and moving cost.
On most of them, yes. On the steepest or narrowest blocks, we park on the nearest safe, level spot or use a smaller truck. Give us your street when you ask for a quote.
If the truck needs to hold curb space, yes. Berkeley issues Temporary No Parking permits through its Permit Service Center, and the signs go up 72 hours before the move.
Hourly: $145 for 2 movers, $175 for 3 movers and $235 for 4 movers, with a 3-hour minimum, plus packing materials used.
Yes. Tell us roughly how many steps there are and whether there are landings, and we bring the crew size that keeps the carry safe.
Yes. Smaller moves still have the 3-hour minimum, and the start and end of the semester book up quickly, so reserve early.
