One of the five original towns

When Fremont incorporated in 1956, Centerville was one of the five towns it joined together, along with Niles, Irvington, Mission San Jose and Warm Springs. Today it spreads out from the corner of Fremont Boulevard and Thornton Avenue, with the Centerville train station on the Capitol Corridor and ACE lines, a long run of Afghan restaurants and markets along Fremont Boulevard, and Peralta Boulevard heading north toward Niles. Central Park and Lake Elizabeth are a short drive east.

People move here for the commute as much as anything. The train station, quick access to I-880 and the middle-of-the-city location make Centerville a common first stop for renters and a common landing spot for families buying their first Fremont house.

02

Ranch houses, garden apartments and new townhomes

Most of Centerville was built out after the war. Single-story ranch homes on wide lots fill the side streets, and they move quickly: one level, a straight hall and a garage that usually opens right onto the driveway. Along Fremont Boulevard and Thornton you find two- and three-story garden apartments with outside stairways, and closer to the station, newer townhome rows with garages on the ground floor and living space stacked above.

The townhomes are where time goes. Sofas and dressers climb two flights inside, so we wrap them fully and take legs off before they hit the landings.

03

Parking and complex rules

Apartment complexes and townhome associations often have their own rules for moves, such as which entrance to use or where a truck may stand. Ask your manager or HOA before the date. If they want a certificate of insurance, we provide it free; send us the HOA or management name, mailing address and email. On busy Fremont Boulevard, plan to load from a side street or the complex lot rather than the main road. The truck needs about 40 feet including its ramp.

Hourly pricing for Centerville homes

One-level ranch houses and two-bedroom apartments usually take 3 movers at $175 per hour. A three-bedroom over 1,800 square feet, or four bedrooms and up, gets 4 movers at $235. A small apartment load can go with 2 movers at $145. We bill a 3-hour minimum, then in 15-minute pieces, with no weekend premium and no charge for stairs, mileage or fuel beyond the time itself.

From a studio to four bedrooms: Centerville move costs

For a realistic sense of the total, we started from the billed time on moves we completed from mid-July to mid-October 2026, so each row comes from actual jobs. Easy access and packed boxes pull a move toward the low end; the total for a Centerville move is always the hours used times the crew rate.

Home sizeCrewTypical hoursTypical cost
Studio3 movers, $175/hr3.5 to 4 hours$613 to $700
1 bedroom3 movers, $175/hr3 to 4.5 hours$525 to $788
2 bedrooms3 movers, $175/hr4.5 to 7.75 hours$788 to $1,356
3 bedrooms, under about 1,800 sq ft3 movers, $175/hr7 to 12.5 hours$1,225 to $2,188
3 bedrooms over about 1,800 sq ft, or 4+ bedrooms4 movers, $235/hr7 to 12.5 hours$1,645 to $2,938

Middle 50% of billed hours on recent local moves for direct customers (July to October 2026), with the drive between homes counted as billed. Account and partner-billed jobs and moves that included our full packing are not in these numbers. Packing supplies extra; 3-hour minimum.

A single-story ranch with a garage opening onto the driveway moves quickly, while a townhome near the station, where sofas and dressers climb two flights inside, takes longer for the same bedroom count.

05

Distance, arrival and drive time

Centerville is roughly 16 miles north of downtown San Jose. For the East Bay, the morning arrival window is 9-11 AM, and your crew foreman phones 30 minutes out. Travel to your door is free. If you are heading somewhere more than 10 minutes away, the drive between the two addresses is doubled under California rules, which is something we explain on the estimate.

06

A Centerville moving checklist

  • Get your complex's move rules and send us any COI request early.
  • Reserve a loading spot off Fremont Boulevard if you live on it.
  • Clear the garage first in a ranch house; it is usually the slowest room.
  • For townhomes, measure the turn at each landing.
  • Ask about a repeat or referral discount: 7% repeat, 5% friend referral, 7% agent referral with a name or phone as proof.

Questions and answers

My townhome is three floors. Will that need four movers?

Not always. The crew size follows the home size: three movers for most two- and three-bedroom townhomes, four for three bedrooms over 1,800 square feet or four bedrooms and up.

Can you load from the apartment parking lot?

Usually yes, if the complex allows it. Ask management where trucks may stand and tell us so the crew goes straight there.

I am moving from Centerville to the Peninsula. Is the drive billed?

Driving to your first address is free. Because the drop-off is more than 10 minutes away, the drive between pickup and drop-off is doubled under California rules.

Do you bring wardrobe boxes?

Yes, about eight wardrobe boxes come with a full-service move and are returned after. Keeping one costs $25.

Is there a deposit to book a local move?

No. Local moves have no deposit; you pay at the end with cash, money order, Visa or Mastercard.
