A city of houses and not much else

Monte Sereno is one of the smallest cities in Santa Clara County, and nearly all of it is homes. There is no downtown, no shopping strip and very little through traffic. People who live here shop and eat in Los Gatos, which wraps around the city on two sides and shares the 95030 ZIP code.

The lower part of town, near Highway 9, has quiet streets of single-family homes on generous lots. Farther south and west the ground rises into the foothills, and the roads narrow and wind as they climb. Many of those houses sit well above or below the road, at the end of a long or steep driveway, sometimes behind a gate.

That is the core of a Monte Sereno move: not traffic or parking meters, but the distance and the grade between where a truck can safely stop and where your furniture actually is.

Near Saratoga-Los Gatos Road: flatter streets and shorter driveways. A full-size truck usually parks in front of the house.
The hillside roads: narrow, curving and sometimes without a shoulder. We park where the road is wide enough for others to pass, or bring a smaller truck.
Long and steep driveways: a loaded truck is not driven down a steep drive. We stop at the top or on the road and carry, using dollies and extra hands.
Private and shared roads: some homes are reached by a private lane. Let us know, and ask your neighbors or HOA if there are rules for trucks.
Highway 9 and Highway 17: the main ways in and out. Both slow down at commute hours, especially toward Los Gatos.
