Moving onto the island
Alameda is an island city with only a handful of ways on and off: the Posey and Webster Street tubes under the estuary, and the Park Street, Fruitvale and High Street bridges, plus the Bay Farm Island bridge on the south side. Every Oakland to Alameda move uses one of them. In 2026 we quoted a Dublin to Alameda studio.

What the hours cost
Every job starts with a 3-hour minimum, which is 3 x $175 = $525 with our standard team of 3 movers, then billing runs in 15-minute steps. As a planning range, David tells customers a studio usually takes 3 to 4 hours and a one-bedroom 3 to 5, which at $175 an hour is $525 to $700 for a studio and $525 to $875 for a one-bedroom, before supplies. Blankets, tape, wardrobe boxes and floor protection come with the rate. On Alameda moves a lot of the time goes to the houses themselves: the island has many Victorian and early 1900s homes with tall front stairs, and apartments carved out of old houses with narrow hallways.
Drive time across the estuary
Downtown Oakland to central Alameda is about 3 to 5 miles. Depending on the crossing and the hour, the drive can take less than 10 minutes or more than 15. California's double drive time rule only counts the drive twice when pickup and drop-off are more than 10 minutes apart, so on some Oakland to Alameda moves it does not apply at all. From farther away, like Dublin or the Oakland hills, it does.
Ways onto the island
| Crossing | Connects |
|---|---|
| Posey Tube | Downtown Oakland / Chinatown to west Alameda (into the island) |
| Webster Street Tube | West Alameda to Oakland (off the island) |
| Park Street Bridge | Fruitvale area to central Alameda |
| Fruitvale and High Street bridges | East Oakland to east Alameda |
General geography. Which crossing the drive uses depends on the addresses and the day.
Parking and access on the island
Alameda streets are mostly flat and gridded, which helps, but curb space near older homes and the Park Street and Webster Street business districts can be tight. Our 26 ft truck needs about 40 feet including the ramp. Check with the city whether a temporary no-parking sign is needed on your block; we help you plan it. Bay Farm Island and the newer developments near Alameda Point often have HOAs that ask for a certificate of insurance. Ours is free.
Alameda to Oakland
Moving off the island is the same price structure. Both cities are in the East Bay window, so the crew arrives between 9 and 11 AM and calls 30 minutes ahead. If you are going up into the Oakland hills, tell us the street. Narrow, winding roads may need a look before move day.
Before the truck comes
- Measure the front door and the turn at the top of the stairs for large sofas.
- Box all small items; plastic bags are not moved.
- Empty and defrost the fridge; food does not go on the truck.
- Reserve the elevator if your building has one. Waiting time is billed.
