Over the Sunol grade to the Tri-Valley
Pleasanton, Dublin and Livermore draw a fair number of South Bay households. In 2026 we completed a Mountain View to Livermore move and a Santa Clara to Dublin move, and quoted a Santa Clara to Pleasanton move. Most of these trips take I-680 north over the Sunol grade, and most end at a newer home with more room than the one left behind.

Why a one-bedroom took 5 hours
Our Santa Clara to Dublin one-bedroom took 5 billed hours. Loading and unloading a small home goes quickly, but the drive over the hill is roughly 35 minutes, and California's double drive time rule bills it twice. On a long local move like this one, the drive is a real share of the bill. It is also why we rarely suggest a 4th mover for a small home here: the drive is billed at the full crew rate whether the truck holds three movers or four.
Timing
South Bay pickups arrive 8 to 10 AM. Weekday mornings, I-680 southbound into San Jose is the crowded side, so the loaded truck heading north is usually against the peak. Afternoons the pattern flips. If your Tri-Valley home is in an HOA community, ask whether the HOA wants a certificate of insurance. Ours is free with the HOA name, mailing address and an email.
Tri-Valley to the South Bay
Moving the other way, a Pleasanton, Dublin or Livermore pickup is in the East Bay window, 9 to 11 AM. Everything else is the same: hourly, 3-hour minimum, the drive counted twice and no charge to reach your pickup.
Pianos, safes and heavy pieces
Bigger Tri-Valley homes often mean a piano or a gun safe. A grand or baby grand always gets 4 movers. An upright gets 4 when there is a flight of stairs, otherwise 3. For anything over 300 lbs, like a safe, send a photo so David can confirm the crew and the plan before move day.
