Can you move items packed in plastic bags?

No. For safety and stacking, small items must be in sturdy sealed boxes. Exceptions: bulky items like a vacuum wrapped in blankets.

No, small items need sealed boxes

We do not load items packed in plastic bags. For safety and for stacking in the truck, every smaller item has to go inside a sturdy box that is sealed shut. A few bulky things are exceptions, and we wrap those in moving blankets instead.

Why bags do not work in a truck

A truck is packed floor to ceiling, and every layer rests on the one below. Boxes have flat sides and stack into a solid wall that does not move on the road. Bags slump, tear and slide. They also hide what is inside, so a crew member cannot tell whether a bag of "soft stuff" has a picture frame or a ceramic mug buried in it. Those hidden pieces are what break. A sealed box can be labeled, lifted with two hands and set exactly where it belongs in the load.

If you are short on boxes

No need for a last-minute store run. The truck carries extra boxes and supplies, billed as used, and the crew can help pack anything still sitting in bags. Mention it when you book so the day's plan leaves room for that extra packing. Prep ideas are on our moving checklist, and the packing services page explains crew packing. Our local move page covers the rest of the day.

Questions and answers

Can trash bags of clothes go on the truck?

No. Move the clothes into boxes, or use the free wardrobe boxes for anything on hangers.

What about soft items like pillows?

They go in boxes as well. Boxes keep them clean and let the crew stack the load safely.

Are there any exceptions?

Bulky items such as a vacuum can be wrapped in moving blankets, and bundled garden tools are handled the same way.
