Two households, one truck

Moving in with a partner usually means two sets of everything converging on one address: two sofas, two beds, two kitchens' worth of pans. The move itself can be simple. One truck, one crew, two pickups and one drop-off. The harder part is deciding what not to bring.

02

One job, two pickups

On a local move there is no fee for an extra stop. We load at the first address, drive to the second, load again, and deliver everything to the new home. The stop only adds time. Tell us which address is first; usually it makes sense to start with the larger home so its furniture goes deepest in the truck. If the two homes and the new place are more than 10 minutes apart, the driving between them is billed as double drive time under California rules. The drive from our yard to your first address is free.

03

Decide on duplicates first

Moving a second sofa you will sell next month costs time twice. Before the move, agree on which bed, sofa, dining set and desk you are keeping, and sell, donate or give away the rest. Measure the new home so the pieces you keep actually fit. Both of you should label boxes by room in the new home, not by whose they are.

04

When one lease ends first

Leases rarely end on the same day. Options: one person moves in first and the second follows on a later day, as two smaller jobs; or one person's things go to storage for a few weeks. Two separate moves each have their own 3-hour minimum, which matters if one apartment is small. A studio usually takes 3 to 4 hours on its own. Combined into one job as a second pickup, you pay one 3-hour minimum instead of two. Climate-controlled storage is billed as a flat monthly fee in 30-day periods.

05

What it costs

3 movers and a truck are $175 per hour, 4 movers $235 per hour, every day, with a 3-hour minimum and 15-minute increments. Blankets, tape, wardrobe boxes, floor protection and furniture disassembly and reassembly are included; boxes and other supplies are charged as used. If either of you has moved with us before, mention it: repeat customers receive 7% off; a friend's referral is 5%.

06

Parking at two pickups

Each pickup needs room for the truck, about 40 feet of curb for the truck and ramp. If one of you lives in an apartment building, check whether it needs a certificate of insurance and an elevator reservation; COIs are free, and elevator wait is billed as job time. If one street is tight, David checks access before move day.

07

Plan the day

  • Agree on which furniture comes and which goes.
  • Pick the pickup order and tell us when you book.
  • Have someone at each address; share both phone numbers.
  • Reserve elevators at any building that requires it; ask if a COI is needed.
  • Label boxes by destination room.
  • Pack a first-night box for each of you.

Questions and answers

Is there a fee for a second pickup?

No. Local extra stops have no fee; they only add time.

Who needs to be at each address?

Someone at each pickup to let the crew in and point out what goes. Share their numbers.

Should we do one move or two?

One move with two pickups is usually cheaper. Two moves make sense when leases end weeks apart.

Do you give discounts?

Repeat customers receive 7% off, friend referrals 5%, and real estate agent referrals 7%.
