Who pays if the moving truck gets a parking ticket?
A double-parking citation on moving day is added to the customer bill. It is written in our quote and policy. Here is how to avoid one.

If the truck gets a double-parking citation at your move, that cost is added to your bill. It is not a surprise charge: the rule is printed in your quote and in our company policy. A little planning ahead usually prevents it.
02Why the customer covers it
The crew can only park where the street allows. When there is no legal spot near your door, the choice is between a long carry, which adds hourly time, or stopping in the street to load, which risks a ticket. Because parking depends on the address, the citation goes with the move. We would much rather help you avoid one than pass it along.
03Ways to prevent a citation
- Reserve curb space. Park your own cars in front of the building overnight and pull them out when the crew calls.
- Get a permit where it makes sense. In San Francisco, a temporary permit can be processed through SFMTA; see our permit guide.
- Point us to loading zones. A legal loading area near the elevator is often the cleanest answer.
- Share access notes early. Tell David about bus lanes, bike lanes or tow-away hours on your block.
04Who handles what
| Situation | Result |
|---|---|
| Truck legally parked, no ticket | Nothing extra |
| Double-parking citation during your move | Added to your bill |
| Permit obtained for the curb | Truck parks in the reserved space |
Parking is one of the few things that can add to a local bill besides time and materials. Our moving cost guide lists what the hourly rate already covers, and San Francisco movers explains how we handle tight city blocks.

FAQQuestions and answers
Is the ticket charge in writing?
Yes. It appears in the quote you receive and in our company policy.
Does a permit cost more than a ticket?
Sometimes it does, which is why David looks at your street first and only suggests a permit when a citation is a real risk.
Will the crew avoid parking illegally if they can?
Yes. They look for the safest legal spot first and only stop in the street when there is no alternative.
