Do you move antique furniture?

Yes. Antiques are blanket-wrapped and fragile parts protected. Since basic valuation pays by weight, consider full-value coverage through Baker.

Q

Yes, with some planning

A
Antique wooden armoire in a bright bedroom

Yes. We move antique dressers, armoires, sideboards and heirloom pieces regularly. The handling is careful by default, but the coverage question deserves a few minutes of thought before the move, because older pieces are often worth far more than their weight suggests.

Q

How we protect older pieces

A
  • Every piece is wrapped in our moving blankets, included at no charge
  • Glass doors, mirrors and marble or glass tops are boxed or crated separately when they can be removed
  • Drawers are emptied so the joints are not stressed
  • Pieces that come apart, such as some armoires and tables, are taken apart rather than forced through doorways

The Silver add-on covers bulky fragile items such as mirrors, large frames and glass tops, if you choose it at the end. More on packing fragile things is on our packing services page.

Q

Why coverage matters more for antiques

A
OptionHow it paysExample: 40 lb antique side table
Basic valuation60 cents per pound per article, free$24 maximum
Full value through Baker InternationalBased on the item's value, your own policyCovered at declared value

Basic valuation is a state standard tied to weight, not insurance. For a light, valuable piece, full-value protection through Baker International at bakerintl.com, using our mover ID 17421, is worth considering.

Q

What to tell us ahead of time

A
  1. List the antiques and note anything loose, cracked or previously repaired.
  2. Send a photo of anything over 300 pounds so David can confirm the plan.
  3. Say where each piece goes at the new home, so it is carried once.

Tell us, too, if a piece has a family history that makes it irreplaceable. Money can repair or replace most things, not all, and knowing which item matters most helps the foreman plan.

Questions and answers

QDo antiques cost more to move?

A

There is no antique surcharge. Careful wrapping and extra boxing take time, which is billed at the normal hourly rate.

QShould I photograph my antiques before the move?

A

It is a good idea, especially if you buy full-value coverage, so the condition before the move is documented.

QCan you crate a large mirror?

A

Mirrors and glass are boxed or crated for the move, and the Silver option covers bulky fragile items like these.
